Build a Business Website in Kenya: The 12-Point Pre-Launch Checklist
Why this checklist saves you money
Launching a broken or slow site costs you leads and damages trust. Run through these 12 items before you go live — whether you DIY or hire a pro.
The 12-point pre-launch checklist
1. Mobile load test on 4G
Test your site on a budget Android phone using Safaricom data. Target: <3 seconds to interactive.
2. WhatsApp button works on mobile
Tap it. Does it open WhatsApp with a pre-filled message? If not, fix it. This is your #1 conversion tool.
3. M-Pesa checkout tested end-to-end
Do a KES 1 test transaction. Does the user get instant confirmation? Does your system record the payment?
4. All forms submit and notify you
Test contact forms. Do you get an email/SMS/WhatsApp alert within 60 seconds?
5. Google Analytics 4 installed
Verify real-time tracking works. Set up conversion events for WhatsApp clicks and form submissions.
6. SEO basics in place
- Unique title/description per page
- Schema markup for LocalBusiness
- XML sitemap submitted to Google Search Console
7. Google Business Profile linked
Add your website URL, photos, and service areas. This drives local "near me" traffic.
8. Security basics
- HTTPS enabled (padlock in browser)
- Admin login protected (strong password, 2FA if possible)
- Regular backup schedule documented
9. Legal pages
Privacy Policy and Terms of Service — even for small sites. Use a Kenyan lawyer template or generator.
10. Broken link check
Run a tool like Screaming Frog or use a free online checker. Fix any 404s.
11. Content proofread
Typos damage credibility. Have a second person review all text, especially pricing and contact details.
12. Post-launch support plan
Who do you call if the site breaks at 8pm? Get SLA terms in writing. See our support options on pricing.
